In April of this year, we partnered with two of our host farms to start selling finished compost in 5 gallon bags. They are available to everyone, whether you’re one of our food scrap composting customers or not (food scrap composting customers get 1 or 2 bags for free, per year, and a discount on additional bags!).
We deliver finished compost to your door in sturdy polypropylene bags. If you are one of our food scrap composting customers, we can take the empty bags back from you at a later date when we come to empty your bucket. For those who do not do your composting of food scraps with us, we’ve compiled a short list of ways for you to reuse the bags after you’ve enjoyed all of your compost:
- Use as protection for outdoor plants. For those on the more fragile side, using the bag as an outer cover can keep plants warm in the winter and shield against wind. Be sure to employ a cloth barrier between the plant to provide insulation and to avoid the plants having direct contact with the polypropylene.
- Use as a small trash/recycling can liner. Depending on what you put in your recycling bin, you can use the bag over and over without needing to wash.
- Bring it on a camping trip and use as a trash receptacle.
- Use as a temporary receptacle for food scraps. Cut the bag to your desired size and use on the counter or bring outside for backyard BBQs.
- Storage for other plastic bags.
- Storage for gardening equipment.
- Sew them into a blanket for picnics and the beach.
- Store your 90s pogs collection. Now’s a good time to get into pogs again (or other super cool stuff from back in the day).
