About our company and services:
Established in 2016, we are a woman-owned company born from a desire to prevent food scraps, leaves, and other organic discards from being landfilled in Philadelphia. Our goal is to change people’s perception of organic materials that have traditionally been considered trash, and provide people with a simple, localized alternative to throwing these organic materials away. We make our household composting pickups via a combination of e-bikes and trucks. For our commercial customers, we have commercial trucks with lift gates to swap your full Toters or buckets for clean, empty ones.
For our household composting customers, we offer a variety of options to meet your needs. You can choose to have a 5 gallon bucket swapped out every week or every other week for a clean one, or keep the same 5 gallon bucket and just have us empty it, or choose to have one of our 2 gallon buckets swapped out every week or every other week. All of these options and prices are spelled out on our free trial page!
We partner with hyper-local farm partners to turn your waste into nutrient rich compost. This compost is then used by our farm partners to grow healthy plants and vegetables, completing the “circle of life” from your table back to your local farm! We also offer 5 – 10 gallons of free compost back to our 5 gallon bucket household composting customers annually, and discounted bags of compost ($9 instead of $10) to our 2 gallon bucket customers. We take the bags back from you and reuse them for future deliveries! We also offer the same bags of compost for sale at full $10 price for people who don’t compost their scraps with us, but live within our service area.
The problem and how we solve it:
In America today, approximately 30 – 40% of landfills are filled with food scraps that could have been turned into compost instead. This landfilled organic material slowly releases methane, a greenhouse gas up to 80x more harmful to our environment than carbon dioxide.
When we prevent food scraps and other organic discards from being landfilled, not only are we helping to slow down our country’s unsustainable landfill epidemic, we also help farmers, gardeners, and our environment by creating organic compost. Organic compost absorbs CO2 from our atmosphere, helping reverse the effects of climate change, and also makes an incredible soil aid to help farmers and gardeners grow healthier plants.
If you are a Philadelphia resident interested in composting, you will likely generate 30 – 40% less trash by using our services. You can feel great about preventing your organic food scraps from going to landfill, while also helping us create organic compost for Philly’s urban farmers and gardeners.
If you run a restaurant, brewery, cafe, coffee shop, school, University, or any other business with a commercial kitchen, or if you work in an office or any business where people eat during their workday, our services could significantly reduce the amount of trash you create. This could lead to an ongoing cost savings for your organization on trash pickup and/or help you avoid costly overage fees if your regular trash containers tend to overflow. We also provide a means for food waste disposal compliance on your Philadelphia Department of Health / Office of Food Protection Food Facility Inspection Report.
