Saturday was a lovely day in Philadelphia! Volunteers across the city pitched in to clean up their local parks as part of Philly’s Love Your Park Fall Service Day. Philadelphians picked up and bagged trash, raked and bagged leaves, trimmed bushes and tree limbs, did craft projects with their kids, and all in all got to enjoy beautiful weather with their neighbors.
We at Circle Compost connected with a couple of parks who needed their leaves picked up, and those leaves will now be made into compost for Philly’s urban farms and gardens. At Fitler Square, it was great to meet Judy, Pat, and Chris and see how much they and others accomplished when we picked up their many bags of leaves. Here’s a triumphant photo in front of Fitler Square’s Love Your Park sign:
We also spoke with Ryan from the Beck Park cleanup team and we were able to swing by and pick up their leaves – they bagged an impressive quantity:
We’re psyched to get these leaves into our piles and get them cookin’ into 100% Philly made compost to help Philly’s urban farms grow some Philly food! If you’re looking to lower your net impact on our planet, our food waste pickup for Philadelphia residents is just $15/month for one 5 gallon bucket per week pickup, and we currently do almost all of our food waste pickup via bicycle.
